This design aims to create a way for pedestrians who feel they may be targeted due to racial, religious, or sexual bias to identify people around them willing to walk with them and be active bystanders. An Uber-like app that’s all about volunteers walking people to their cars or the bus stop.
People willing to be Friend-In-Me volunteers sign up and download app which runs in background on their smartphone, showing their location and identity.
Volunteers become visible by completing active bystander training and learning about how to be supportive of marginalized groups.
Anyone with the Friend-In-Me Finder can access the map, those in need of someone to walk them to their car need not log in. Possible help messages or request push notifications could be sent to volunteers.
