Several courses in CEHS use the Design Studio for various projects.
TEAC 259/A Maker Project
Undergraduate elementary, secondary education majors, and speech language pathology students work in groups, to create, design, develop, prototype a teaching/practitioner tool, program, app, game etc. The project exposes students to design thinking, innovation, and making. It allows them to be creative, to think differently about teaching and learning.
Students think about:
- What does it look like when teaching does not begin with content?
- How do you encourage creativity in classrooms?
- How do you connect content to student’s lives?
- Today’s educational system starts with the question of outcomes, what do we want children to learn. This assignment asks you to start with a different question. What experience do we want students to have?
